Frosty Jacksonville Theatre reviews
As Good As It Gets
Jackyl opened the show with fire, chainsaws, breaking stuff up. It's kind of old school but the band does have some talent, just not my thing. I mean, The Who, Hendrix, Wendy O. Williams. They were OK, I have heard of them in the past but never was a fan. Nothing they did changed my mind.
Then Frosty came on. We used to listen to Frosty back in the late 60's on underground/late night radio. He got some early daytime airplay with Journey to the Center of the Mind, then nothing much down here until the 80's when he exploded. Unlike ZZ Top and others I could name, you never see a bad show from either of them. Look, you either like this kind of stuff or you don't. Does he miss a note and chord change here and there? Yes. Always has. I still challenge you to find someone his age with that much energy. Few and far between. Then he died down again. But his live shows, well, me and my wife have been going since the early 70's.
The Amp is OK. They always make sure the shows end early. I am a lifelong Pompano resident so, since my tax dollars pay for it empty or full, I might be a bit more critical than some. As usual, they are totally lost when it comes to keeping people from the front of the stage. They never seem to have a NY Eve show anymore. And I see no reason why alcohol and parking costs can't be more in line with Parker Playhouse in Ft. Lauderdale.
One nice thing about the Amp other than it is close to home. Probably a mistake during the planning of the facility. There is actually some leg room in front of your seat. Gives the drunks plenty of room to keep going for beer :) And, like at most concerts, the worst comes out in people. God forbid you actually go to see an artist do his thing. But it is what it is.
